Queensland offers many fabulous opportunities to meet Australia’s unique wildlife.

Encounter an array of marine life such as wild dolphins, colourful fish and turtles during a diving or snorkelling tour on the Great Barrier Reef.

Every year, magnificent humpback whales migrate north to the warm waters of Queensland to give birth to their young. Go on a whalewatching cruise from late July to November, in regions such as Brisbane or the Fraser Coast.

One of the best viewing platforms to see the elusive Australian animal called “platypus” is in the rainforests of the Mackay region. Go birdwatching to see some of the hundreds of species found in the state. You can also go on a glow worm tour or cruise across tropical waterways to see if you can spot a crocodile.

There are also some great opportunities to join an Australian National Park ranger on a tour to spotlight unique nocturnal animals in their natural environment.

Around Queensland, there are plenty of wildlife parks where you can get up close and personal with Australian native animals such as kangaroos, koalas and local birdlife. Have your photo taken while holding a koala. Feed crocodiles, look at deadly snakes and learn about our unique wildlife.
